I'd either been underestimating my cheap laptop's capabilities or overestimating how advanced the Dreamcast was, as it turns out it can handle 3D games after all, expanding our gaming horizons to an immersive 3D environment where we hold forwards to proceed down a linear path. The fiddly gameplay with its wacky camera angles is irritating at best, but I give it credit for building on Sonic 3 & Knuckles' very basic foundations for parallel character stories. The kid just wanted a "mess-around" Tails Simulator anyway, so the rest was a bonus.
