Alrightgames: Once Upon a Time Dominoes

Once Upon a Time Dominoes

2010 / Domino game / 2-4 players / UK

***

Seemingly predating Orchard's Monster and Dino dominoes, with their increasingly sensible sizing and clearer colour coordination, the similar colouring and faces are presumably some devious tactic to encourage preschoolers to pay attention to details, or maybe it was just cheaper to print.

Alrightgames: Disney Princess Puzzles – 4 in a Box

Disney Princess Puzzles: 4 in a Box

2019 / Jigsaw puzzles / 1 player

**

She asked for it, then was bored before doing them all. Disney Princesses were so 2022.

Alrightgames: Guess Who?

Guess Who?

1979 (1996 edition) / Deduction game / 2 players / Israel

****

We were already DIYing a version with My Little Pony Top Trumps, so it was pleasing to find the specific version of this basic board game from my own childhood, even if it did turn out to be more bizarrely male-dominated than I would have noticed back then.

She was a bit obsessed with this for a while, even playing it in the real world when sharing her observation that the dad pushing the swing next to us was a bald man.

Alrightgames: Wooden Fishing Game

Wooden Fishing Game

2018 / Magnet game / 2-4 players / UK

***

Classic, though most of the playing time was spent untangling the bloody things. They're segregated in bags now.

Babyliography CIX

Unknown, My Little Pony: The Movie

2017 / Library book / 64 pages / UK

***

A decent abridgement. It's kind of the old Sonic & Knuckles story for the 2010s, but with more magic of friendship™.

Unknown, Wipe Clean Teach Me to Spell

Wipe-clean activity book / 16 pages / UK

**

Too advanced and boring to have considered buying yet if it hadn't been 24.75p. It mainly helped to top up our dwindling supply of wipe-clean pens, even if it's a blue one.

Jenny Tyler and artists, Usborne Bedtime Stories for Little Children

2009 / Hardback / 136 pages / UK

****

The other one's a mainstay of the bedroom bedtime library. This one has fewer classic cuts, but similarly friendly panoramas.

Phoebe Beinstein and Robert Roper, Dora the Explorer: Dora and the Stuck Truck

2008 / Hardback / 24 pages

**

Come on vĂ¡monos everybody let's go come on let's get to it I know that we can do it where are we going clap clap clap Play Park where are we going clap clap clap Play Park where are we going clap clap clap Play Park where are we going clap clap clap Play Park hahahahahaha Play Park.

David Melling, Once Upon a Bedtime

2018 / Library book / 32 pages / UK

***

Did the trick as a recap at the end of her own bedtime routine, though she did have to go downstairs to retrieve a cuddly.

Babyliography CVIII

Unknown, My Little Pony: Crystalling Chaos

2016 / Paperback / 32 pages / UK

**

A simple story about a cute baby unicorn was too much to expect, it had to be bogged down by lore. They throw in random questions along the way, perhaps sensing boredom.

Unknown, Disney Wonderful World of Reading: The Princess and the Frog

2010 / Hardback / 44 pages

**

A lot more detailed than the Step into Reading version; still not as good as watching the movie.

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, Monkey Puzzle

2000 / Library book / 26 pages / UK/Germany

****

A good twist on an over-familiar but ever-reliable plot.

Scout Driggs, Julie Driggs and Lyn Fletcher, My Little Pony: Pony Pop Stars

2005 / Ebook / 24 pages / USA

*

How can you play guitar with hooves? Ridiculous.

Babette Cole, Bad Habits! (or The Taming of Lucretzia Crum)

1998 / Paperback / 32 pages / UK

*

Randomly given to us free at the charity shop when we bought a game. What was she trying to say?

Kes Gray and Garry Parsons, The Who's Whonicorn of Unicorns

2021 / Library book / 32 pages / UK

Well done, you found lots of rymes for 'u-'. It gets a point for the stinky poo, on behalf of the kids.

Caryl Hart and Rosalind Beardshaw,
When a Dragon Meets a Baby

2021 / Library book / 32 pages / UK

**

That'll teach you to be racist about dragons.

Unknown, Peter Rabbit: Lily's Party Time

2015 / Preschool book / 32 pages / UK

**

She's never been bothered about her comprehensive Beatrix Potter compendium, but this CGI bunny she's never watched was apparently appealing. It's fine.

Chuck Whelon and Helen Brown, Where's the Bunny?: An Egg-cellent Search-and-Find Book

2019 / Library book / 48 pages / UK

****

One of the easier ones in this range, presumably continuing until the whole animal kingdom and fictional bestiary is accounted for, she was very pleased with herself when he was already in her line of sight on turning the page.

Sam Lloyd, Happy Birthday, Boris!

2018 / Library book / 10 pages / UK

**

Complete with irresistible hand puppet, it's a good start on reclaiming the name.

Lots of pictures to look at and draw.

Unknown, My Dreamy Unicorn Activity Case

***

Good variety. You know, apart from the inescapable unicorns.

Unknown, My Little Pony Early Readers: Pinkie Pie's Perfect Party / Fluttershy's Secret Song

2016-18 / Library books / 64 pages / UK

***

Five down, one to go! I had the Turtles, I know Hasbro's game. It makes her happy.

Karl Newson and Ross Collins, I Am a Tiger

2019 / Preschool book / 32 pages / UK

**

I dont really get this book for preschoolers.

Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, The Singing Mermaid

2012 / Library book / 32 pages / UK

***

Several shades darker than you'd expect from the glittery cover.

Babyliography CV

Rosie Greening and Stuart Lynch, Never Touch a Hedgehog / Shark!

2018-19 / Library books / 24 pages / UK

**

The zany typefaces make it hard to read the words, but that's the least important part. It's all a bit mean generally.

Thomas Docherty, The Horse That Jumped

2021 / Library book / 32 pages / New Zealand

***

Pleasant dream fuel for bedtime.

Unknown, My Little Pony Colouring Adventures

2017 / Magazines / 24 pages / UK

**

The stories are a nice touch, and sometimes relevant to the activity, even if the careless clipart doesn't always match the plot. If that didn't escape a three-year-old's notice, what does that say about your team?

Pat Hutchins, Rosie's Walk

1968 / Preschool book / 32 pages / UK

***

The pictures tell more than the words. The first book her preschool assigned to her (really to me), I had to pay special attention to make sure we were getting it. Maybe I'll check the SparkNotes.

Sorrel Pitts, My Little Pony: A Great Night!

2017 / Ebook / 64 pages / UK

**

Another junior adaptation of this episode, complete with spelling activites and a presumably deliberate mistake on the the first page for really advanced kids.

Learning Power Hero Turtles

I haven't felt this proud since those My Little Pony kids got their cutie marks.

2011/2016 / Library books / 64 pages / UK

Nicely detailed art with plenty of references. The hairdressing side was less welcome, but hardly unexpected.

Lynne Bradbury and John Lobban, Learning at Home: ABC

1993 / Paperback / 26 pages / UK

***

If it ain't broke, reprint. School books aren't exactly the height of nostalgia, but these old-school drawings are a welcome change from the usual clipart.

Jo Lodge, Tiger at the Beach

2022 / Library book / 12 pages / UK

**

Fooling toddlers into reading themed glossaries through googly eyes. Well played.

Yi-Hsuan Wu, First Stories: Mulan

2020 / Library book / 10 pages / Taiwan

It didn't have the cool song in it.
